Sumpter Valley Dredge Tours

A tour of the Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge is one of the best ways to see this historical giant and the best way we know of to show you one of the largest Historic Icons in all of Eastern Oregon! Sure...you can tour the Sumpter Valley Dredge on your own....or we can help you plan a special tour of the Dredge for your club, group, or your school. Just give us a call or send us an email and we'll help you plan your visit! Informative interpretive displays make self-guided tours informative. To facilitate self-guided tours, the dredge is equipped with story board pedestals, complete with voice interpretation, to assist those who wish to tour the Dredge unassisted. For those visitors who enjoy guided tours, State Park Rangers and Volunteers are ready to provide a guided tour. Our Staff and volunteers are trained and knowledgeable in the history of the Sumpter Valley Dredge, as well as the surrounding area, and will provide a memorable experience for you and your group.

School Tours

We work together with the Sumpter Valley Railway to give students a unique field trip experience, while providing them with a knowledge of the historic Sumpter Railroad - it's two field trips in one! The entire package includes an informative ride on the Narrow Gauge Steam Train, gold panning lessons, and of course, a tour of the Sumpter Valley Dredge. The trip will begin at the McEwen Depot. Students will enjoy a 6 mile ride through the Historic Sumpter Valley, ultimately arriving at the Sumpter Depot, where they will begin their adventure in history! After students enjoy a sack lunch, Park Rangers and local Volunteers will lead them through the State Heritage Area and the Dredge. Students will learn important history of the SVRY, the Dredge and Sumpter too! In addition to a tour of the dredge, students will be given a short class on the art of gold panning and then will have the opportunity to actually pan for gold! Students can even take home what they find in their gold pans for a small fee! For more information, visit the SVRY website.

Group Events

We can host your Group Event or Meeting at the Sumpter Dredge or somewhere within our State Park Heritage Area! Take advantage of many available lodging options to stay in Historic Sumpter Oregon for the event and enjoy
all Sumpter has to offer........in addition to your meeting!
